Methodology
Daymo collects prices by direct observation in Hargeisa markets. Trained market researchers visit traders and record the price of each item, its variety, the unit of sale and the date of the observation.
Each observation is saved as pending. A Daymo editor checks it against other observations and field notes before it is published. Nobody can verify a price they submitted themselves. Rejected observations are never published.
Corrections are made only with a written reason, and every change is kept in a revision history. Prices that come from other datasets are marked as imported. Demonstration data, when shown, is always labelled DEMO.
The change shown in each table compares the latest verified price with the previous verified price for the same item, unit and market: Percentage change = ((Current − Previous) ÷ Previous) × 100.
Livestock prices are per head and are recorded separately by sex, age and breed where known. Food basket items are monitored package sizes, not estimates of what one household consumes in a month.
Limitations: prices vary between traders, times of day and quality grades. Our figures describe what we observed in the markets we cover and should be read as indicators, not as official prices.
